Hot forging in the workshop: forge, press and bar-end forming

Hot forging starts with heating. The NARGESA H1, H2 and H3 gas forges heat stock up to 1300 °C on propane: one, two or three burners, chambers 140 to 464 mm wide, stock up to Ø80 mm, 0.35–1 kg of gas per hour at 1 bar.

The heated stock is shaped by pressure or on a machine. The NARGESA PV21 is a 21 t hydraulic press with a 250×260 mm table and a 296 mm stroke: it flattens and draws out the metal without impact, repeating to 0.03 mm. The NF70 shapes bar ends and the PC16 bends scrolls on the ends, up to 4 parts per minute; both take round and square bar up to 20 mm and flat up to 40–50×10 mm.

For batch closed-die hot forging, see the forging hammers; for work without heating, the cold forging machines. How to compare forging equipment is covered on the forging equipment.

Questions and answers
