LUNA Phoenix horizontal boring machines with an extending Ø110 or Ø130 mm spindle for prismatic and large-size parts.
The spindle of this machine is horizontal and extends, so the tool reaches holes deep inside a housing. The part sits on the table while the machine bores, drills, mills faces and slots, and taps threads. This is how gearbox housings, beds, plates and other large parts are machined where holes must be coaxial and accurately positioned.
With a digital readout: the LUNA Phoenix 6111B, LUNA Phoenix 6111B/2 and LUNA Phoenix 6111B/3 with a Ø110 mm spindle, 7.5 kW, 8–1000 rpm and travel from 900×900×1400 to 1600×1200×1400 mm; the LUNA Phoenix 6113 and LUNA Phoenix 6113/2 with a Ø130 mm spindle, 15 kW, 4–800 rpm and travel up to 2000×1800×2000 mm.
With SIEMENS or FANUC CNC: the LUNA Phoenix 110M CNC with a Ø110 mm spindle, 10–2500 rpm, 17/20.4 kW and a 1000×1250 or 1250×1400 mm table for 5 t; the LUNA Phoenix 130M CNC with Ø130 mm, 10–3000 rpm, 25/30 kW, a 1600×1800 mm table for 10 t and X travel up to 4000 mm.
For batches of mid-size parts, see machining centers, including the horizontal Perseus 63H; for large plates machined from above, the Perseus RV CNC milling machines. How to compare milling machines is covered on the milling machines.

The spindle diameter in millimetres: Ø110 mm on the 6111B and 110M CNC, Ø130 mm on the 6113 and 130M CNC. Models with the larger spindle also have longer travel and more power.
A readout suits repair work and one-off housings where the operator drives the axes. CNC is for repeat parts and programmed machining; the CNC models in the catalog also run faster, up to 2500–3000 rpm.
