How to choose a deep drawing press

Deep drawing turns a flat sheet into a hollow part — a housing, a vessel, a bowl. The ram pulls the metal into the die while the cushion below holds the edge of the blank so the sheet neither wrinkles nor tears. On TRtech OHP-S presses the ram and cushion strokes are separate, so the metal flow can be controlled. The section holds 14 models from 100 to 2000 t.

What to compare

• Part shape. A drawing, the material, the sheet thickness and the drawing depth are needed — the force and stroke depend on them.
• Cushion force. It is selected separately from the ram force — for holding the blank down. On the OHP-S the cushion runs from 40 t on the 100 t model to 400 t on the 1200 t model.
• Working space. The 600–1200 mm ram stroke and 200–500 mm cushion stroke are matched to the part depth, and the daylight and the 1000×1200 – 1500×2000 mm table to the size of the die.
• Part removal. Consider how the part comes off the die, how the blank is loaded and how long the cycle takes.
