MAXION bench drilling machines for Ø4–Ø20 mm holes: from the high-speed SPEEDMAX to the BT 20 with tapping.
A bench drill stands on a workbench or a stand. It takes little space and suits small holes in small parts — in workshops, classrooms, and assembly and repair areas.
The models differ in diameter and speed. The MAXION SPEEDMAX drills up to Ø4 mm with an ER 11 collet at 700–24,000 rpm: small drills need high speed. The MAXION BT 6 FREQUENZ takes up to Ø6 mm at 1000–9000 rpm. The MAXION ECOMAX 14 and MAXION UNIMAX 1 FREQUENZ drill up to Ø14 and Ø15 mm, with an MT 2 taper and a digital readout. The MAXION BT 20 takes up to Ø20 mm, with a 100 mm spindle stroke, tapping up to M16 and a part counter.
For holes over 20 mm and heavier parts you need a column drilling machine. A batch of M8 threads is tapped on a similar base by the MAXION UNIMAX 1 TAP in the tapping machines section. The BT 6 FREQUENZ and UNIMAX 1 FREQUENZ heads also fit the MAXION BRK 18 multi-station unit. General selection criteria are on the drilling machines.
| Model | Drilling | Throat depth | Spindle stroke | Taper | Speed | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MAXION SPEEDMAX | 4 mm | 215 mm | 60 mm | ER 11 | 700–24000 rpm | 0.8 kW |
| MAXION BT 6 FREQUENZ | 6 mm | 177 mm | 55 mm | B 12 | 1000–9000 rpm | 0.55 kW |
| MAXION ECOMAX 14 | 14 mm | 180 mm | 70 mm | MT 2 | 420–2100 rpm | 0.5/1.0 kW |
| MAXION UNIMAX 1 FREQUENZ | 15 mm | 180 mm | 80 mm | MT 2 | 200–4000 rpm | 1.1 kW |
| MAXION BT 20 | 20 mm | 250 mm | 100 mm | MT 2 | 100–3600 rpm | 1.2 kW |
Cutting speed depends on the diameter: for a drill of a few millimetres to cut properly, the spindle has to turn many times faster than for a Ø20 mm drill. That is why the SPEEDMAX exists for small holes, and slower models for larger ones.
The BT 20 taps up to M16. For batches of M8 threads there is the UNIMAX 1 TAP, and tapping machines for other sizes.
