Weiler and LUNA Octans radial drilling machines for Ø50–Ø100 mm holes in large parts, with throat depth up to 4000 mm.
On a radial drill the drilling head travels along the arm, and the arm swings around the column and moves up and down it. The spindle can therefore reach any point on a large part, and a heavy workpiece does not have to be moved for each hole. These machines are used for flanges, plates, frames and housings.
Weiler VO75 drills up to Ø75 mm, with 386–2000 mm throat depth, an MT5 taper and 7.5 kW. The Weiler VO100 and Weiler VO104 take up to Ø100 mm, with MT6, 11 kW and 580–2565 and 530–4000 mm throat depth. The Weiler VOM50 is a mobile version for Ø50 mm with 1170–2070 mm throat depth.
LUNA Octans 50×12/1 drills up to Ø50 mm, with 350–1250 mm throat depth, a 315 mm spindle stroke, 16 speeds across 25–2000 rpm and 16 feeds of 0.04–3.2 mm/rev. It comes as standard with a 630×500×500 mm box table: parts are clamped to its sides to drill from the side. The machine weighs 3000 kg.
For parts that fit on the table, a column drilling machine is simpler. General selection criteria are on the drilling machines.
| Model | Drilling | Throat depth | Taper | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weiler VO75 | 75 mm | 386–2000 mm | Morse MT5 | 7.5 kW |
| Weiler VO100 | 100 mm | 580–2565 mm | Morse MT6 | 11 kW |
| Weiler VO104 | 100 mm | 530–4000 mm | Morse MT6 | 11 kW |
| Weiler VOM50 | 50 mm | 1170–2070 mm | Morse MT5 | 4 kW |
| LUNA Octans 50×12/1 | 50 mm | 350–1250 mm | Morse MT5 | 4 kW |
The distance from the spindle axis to the column. For a radial drill it is given as a range — the minimum and maximum throat depth within which the head travels along the arm. All the holes in the part must fall within this range.
The largest hole diameter, the material, the size and weight of the part, how far from the edge the holes lie and whether threads must be tapped.
