Drilling-milling machine: holes and milling on one machine

A drilling-milling machine is a drilling machine with a cross table that moves the part in X and Y. After drilling, a slot, shoulder or small face is milled on the same machine without moving the part to another one. The main work is drilling and boring; milling is secondary. These machines are bought by repair shops, training workshops and small-batch production areas.

The catalog carries MAXION machines in two sizes. The MAXION BT 25 F and MAXION BT 25 FST drill up to Ø30 mm, with an MT 3 taper, a 600×240 mm table and 350/160 mm X/Y travel. The MAXION BT 35 F and MAXION BT 35 FST take up to Ø35 mm, with an MT 4 taper, an 800×240 mm table and 470/245 mm travel. The F versions have 10 or 12 fixed spindle speeds; the FST versions have an 80–2800 rpm range and an optional digital readout.

Drilling-milling or milling machine

A milling machine is more rigid, has an ISO 40 or ISO 50 taper and feeds on the axes — milling is its main job. If you mill every day, see milling machines. German FPS machines are described as milling-drilling machines in their specs, but by design they are milling machines: manual ones are under universal milling machines, CNC ones under CNC milling machines. A drilling-milling machine wins where most operations are holes and milling is occasional.

For holes without milling, a column drilling machine is simpler. General selection criteria are on the drilling machines.

Questions and answers

How does F differ from FST?

The F versions have mechanically fixed spindle speeds — 10 on the BT 25 F and 12 on the BT 35 F. The FST versions adjust speed across 80–2800 rpm and can be fitted with a digital readout.

What is milled on a drilling-milling machine?

Slots, shoulders and small faces in parts that fit the 600×240 or 800×240 mm cross table. Heavy milling of steel and large cutters need a milling machine.

How much does a drilling-milling machine cost?

The price depends on the model, configuration and tooling, and on delivery terms, so it is not listed on the site. Send a request and we will prepare a quotation including delivery, commissioning and training.
