Large-format LUNA ORION laser machines with areas from 6000 to 16,000 mm: long sheet, cladding, beams and gantry systems on floor rails.
This section gathers every machine with an area from 6 m. First, the familiar S, D and E series in the 6015, 6020 and 6025 versions — the same machine as the 3000×1500 mm one, but for long sheet. Second, the L series: the LUNA ORION L 12020, L 12025, L 12030 and L 16032, with areas from 12,000×2000 to 16,000×3200 mm.
The G gantry machines stand apart: the LUNA ORION G 2500, G 3200 and G 4000. Their gantry travels on floor rails and the working width is 2500, 3200 or 4000 mm; the length is set by the rails, so such a system is laid out for a particular bay and for the way sheet is fed.
Large format is more than the machine: you need room to bring the sheet in, a crane or a loader and a longer extraction duct. If long parts come up rarely, it is often cheaper to cut them in two pieces on an ordinary sheet machine and weld them. How to compare power and configuration is covered on the laser machines.
A large-format L machine has a bed with a table of fixed size. On a G gantry machine the gantry travels on floor rails over an area you define by the length of the rails, and the sheet or parts are laid out in that area. Gantry systems are chosen for unusually long and heavy workpieces.
The same as for a standard machine: power is set by material and thickness, not by the length of the sheet. All ORION models are supplied with a 1.5–60 kW source. On long parts, though, the difference in speed is more noticeable, so extra power pays off sooner.
