Sheet and tube: when one machine is enough

A combined machine is a sheet laser with a tube module: one source, one CNC and one extraction system cover two jobs and take less floor space than two separate machines. The LUNA ORION C 3015 and the rest of the C series are open machines with 3000×1500, 4000×2000, 6000×1500, 6000×2000 and 6000×2500 mm areas; the CE series, for example the LUNA ORION CE 4020, offers the same areas in an enclosed body. The source is 1.5–30 kW.

BLM GROUP LC5 is an Italian combined system: an area up to 6000×2000 mm, a 2–12 kW source, tube up to Ø120 mm and 8500 mm long, and automatic loading.

A combined machine makes sense when tube work exists but is not the main job. If there is a lot of tube, or it is large, a dedicated tube cutter is faster and more accurate, while for sheet alone a sheet laser is enough. Questions and answers

How long does switching from sheet to tube take?

Switching means a changeover: the tooling and the program change and the sheet has to come off the table. So a combined machine suits alternating batches rather than sheet and tube swapping every half hour. The exact time depends on the configuration and is agreed in the technical proposal.

C or CE?

C is the open version: easier crane loading and a lower entry price. CE has an enclosed body: protection from radiation and less fume and noise in the shop. The working areas are the same in both series.
