Gantry grinders: large plates and beds

When a part does not fit an ordinary surface grinder, a gantry machine is used: the wheel travels on a gantry above the table and the machine itself is built for parts weighing tonnes. This is how machine beds, guideways, large plates, welded frames and mould plates are ground.

The Atlas G range starts with the LUNA Atlas G 7512/20 CNC — a 1000×2000 mm table, 15.5 t — and runs up to the G 7535/60 CNC with a 3000×6000 mm table weighing 60 t. Most models have CNC with two controlled axes and an 18.5 kW drive; the G 52xx and G 53xx series have 22 and 30 kW, and the LUNA Atlas G 208 CNC with a 2400×950 mm table works with three axes.
