Cylindrical grinders: diameter and shaft length

A cylindrical grinder finishes round surfaces after turning and heat treatment: bearing journals, fits, tapers and faces, and with an internal grinding attachment, bores as well. The part rotates between centers or in a chuck while the wheel removes the allowance from outside.

The LUNA Atlas C range covers nearly the whole span: the LUNA Atlas C 1420 takes Ø5–200 mm with 500 or 750 mm between centers, the LUNA Atlas C 1432 Ø8–320 mm with 1000 or 1500 mm and a finish down to Ra 0.04 µm, the C 1450 and C 1463 Ø25–630 mm with up to 5000 mm, and the C 1380A shafts of Ø50–800 mm. The Taiwanese Palmary GU machines in the S version are universal grinders with 400–2000 mm between centers: the name carries the diameter and length, so a GU32x100S is Ø320 mm and 1000 mm.
