Centerless grinding: when there are many parts

In a centerless grinder the part is not clamped: it rests on a blade between the grinding and regulating wheels, which rotate and feed it themselves. There are no centers, no chuck and no setting-up time — parts follow one another. It is the fastest way to grind pins, axles, rollers, bushings and bar.

The catalog holds seventeen Palmary PC models in three versions. The Palmary PC-12 and PC-18 are the basic ones, Ø1–80 mm, with 305×205×120 and 455×205×228 mm wheels and 7.5 and 11.2 kW. The S versions have servo feed: the Palmary PC-20S takes Ø1–160 mm with a 610×305×304 mm wheel and 15 kW. The S-NC versions add numerical control of the cycle. The stated accuracy is 0.001 mm and the machines weigh from 1650 to 5100 kg.

Questions and answers

Which parts suit centerless grinding?

Simple round parts without abrupt steps: pins, small shafts, axles, rollers, bushings and bar. The larger the batch, the clearer the gain — no time is spent clamping the part at all.

How do the PC, PC-S and PC-S-NC versions differ?

PC is the basic version, PC-S adds servo feed of the regulating wheel, and PC-S-NC adds numerical control of the cycle. The mechanics and diameters are the same within each size; the difference is how much of the work the machine takes on.
