Tunnel washing: when parts come in a flow

A cabinet machine washes in batches: load, wash, unload. A tunnel machine works differently — parts travel on a conveyor through washing, rinsing and drying zones and the flow does not stop. That makes sense where parts are alike and keep coming: on assembly lines, in unit repair and in large-batch production.

There are four systems in the catalog. The KSP TUNNEL WASH is a classic tunnel conveyor washer. The KSP CRATE WASH is built for containers: crates, trays and pallets. The AQUA ROLLER is a screw drum conveyor for small parts that are easier to tumble than to stack. CARDAN WASH is a multi-station system for propeller shafts and similar long parts.

The set of zones, the tunnel length and the throughput are matched to your part and line takt — a design decision rather than a catalog item. For batches and a changing mix, the simpler cabinet machines and multi-stage systems fit better. How to compare washing equipment is covered on the washing machines.

Questions and answers

When does a tunnel washer pay off?

When the flow of parts is steady and uniform. A tunnel does not have to be loaded and unloaded in batches, so on a large series it delivers more parts per shift. With a changing mix a cabinet machine wins, because it is easier to reset.

What do you need for a quotation?

The size and weight of the part, the quantity per hour, the kind of contamination, the stages required (washing, rinsing, drying) and the free length available in the shop for the tunnel. From this we work out the configuration.
