Solvent washers: when water will not do it

Paint, varnish, resins, printing ink and polymer residues do not wash off with water — they are dissolved. Solvent vapours are flammable, so these machines are built to the explosion-proof ATEX design: the electrics, ventilation and construction are made so that there are no sparks and no overheating.

SolvEX machines are for parts: the KSP SolvEX 1000 takes 600 kg with a 650 l tank, the SolvEX 1500 and 2000 750 and 850 kg with 1000 and 1250 l tanks, and the Duo version has two 600 kg chambers. AniloxWash covers a narrower job — cleaning anilox rollers in printing — with the KSP AniloxWash C2 and C4 models.

If the contamination is ordinary — oil, coolant, chips — no solvent is needed: a water-based cabinet machine or multi-stage system is enough. How to compare washing equipment is covered on the washing machines.

Questions and answers

What exactly does the ATEX design give?

Safety when working with flammable vapours: the equipment cannot become an ignition source. That covers the electrics, motors, ventilation and earthing. Water-based washers do not need this level, and there is no point paying for it.

What happens to the spent solvent?

Some systems come with distillation, so the solvent is cleaned and returned to the cycle and only the residue is disposed of. What is included in a particular model is confirmed in the technical proposal, because it drives the running costs.
